Feel Good Story: Disabled Student Wasn’t Going to Make the Field Trip, Until a Teacher Helped Out

Teachers . . . they really go above and beyond.

There’s a 10-year-old girl in Kentucky named Ryan Neighbors who has spina bifida, and has been in a wheelchair her whole life.

Recently, her school had planned a field trip to a state park that she knew she wouldn’t be able to go on — it would require a lot of hiking.

Ryan had skipped similar trips before, so her mom started planning an alternate field trip for her . . . until one of the teachers at Ryan’s school reached out.

The teacher, Jim Freeman (who isn’t one of Ryan’s teachers, but  teaches in the classroom next to Ryan’s) volunteered to CARRY Ryan around all day during the field trip so that she wouldn’t have to miss out.

Ryan’s mom has a special backpack her daughter can ride in, so Mr. Freeman strapped it on with the 10 year old student and hiked with her on his back all day long!

Of course the kind-hearted teacher downplayed the whole thing saying he was happy to help . . . but this is another testament of how incredible our teachers truly are.
