Feel Good Story: Bullying Won’t Stop 9 Year Old from Helping Others

Bullies weren’t going to stop one young man from helping others . . .

Brodie Southgate (9) from Anthem, Arizona has grown out his hair to be donated on two separate occasions to a nonprofit organization that helps children battling cancer or dealing with other hair-loss issues like alopecia, trichotilomania (a mental disorder that causes an irresistible urge to pull out one’s own body hair, and severe burns.

Unfortunately, Brodie’s peers didn’t share his kind heart for others.

He gets bullied for his long hair. Brodie shares, “They thought it was crazy because I am a boy and they don’t usually see boys with long hair, and [some people] thought I was a girl.”

Bullying is no match for Brodie’s kindness and willingness to help others, though. The incredible 9-year old tells, “I decided to grow by hair out because I thought the children that had cancer needed hair.”
