Feel Good Story: Bookstore Relocates via Human Chain of 250 Volunteers

There’s a bookstore in England called October Books that has been in business for over 4 decades.  That’s a big deal when you consider there aren’t a ton of bookstores these days, especially with the majority of people doing reading on electronic devises or placing their book orders through Amazon and other online sites.

October Books was about to go under after their rent went up over the summer, but someone caught wind of the news and started a fundraising campaign to help the store. The campaign ended up bringing in over a half-a-million dollars, allowing October Books to BUY another building and relocate.

The building was down the street, about 500 feet away, but the store still had the huge task of relocating the books . . . and there were about 2,000 books that needed to be moved.

Cue the kind-hearted people that wanted to see this bookstore survive the move. There were 250 volunteers to help move the books, by creating a human chain to move the books.

Volunteers passed a few books at a time down the line, and had the whole store moved to its new location in only a few hours.

It is truly amazing to see what people can do when the community comes together.
