Feel Good Story: Blind Wrestler Takes Home the State Championship Title

A high school wrestler in Alabama named Jay Spencer won the state championship in his weight class the other weekend, and he was the FIRST person at his school to ever win the title.

Here’s what’s really impressive . . . Jay has been legally BLIND since he was three years old.

It’s a rare condition called Leber congenital amaurosis. Jay can see a little bit if he looks out of the corner of his eye, but that’s about it.

While not being able to see is a pretty big disadvantage when he takes on his opponents, Jay has said wrestling is the easiest sport he’s tried because it’s more about feel and sensing that anything else.

Out of the 37 matches Jay’s had this season, he’s won 35 of them!

Jay’s message to everyone: NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF. “If you just keep believing in yourself, you can do anything.”
