Talk about ingenuity and bringing the future to the present in such a great way!
There’s an inventor named Kursat Ceylan, who is blind, and he figured out a way to help others with vision difficulties more easily navigate this great big world a lot more safely.
It’s called the WeWalk cane, and it’s a “smart cane” that uses ultrasonic sensors of objects and obstacles by causing vibrations in the handle.
The cane can be paired with a smarphone’s Bluetooth for easier control, AND it’s integrated with Voice Assistant and Google Maps Software. It also has built-in speaker to help alert the user of nearby stores or other details that may otherwise not be easily detected.
Kursat shared with CNN that the inspiration to develop the cane was to help other blind people benefit from modern technology in a more helpful way.
Future hopes for the WeWalk smart cane is to also be able to pair it with ridesharing apps and other transportation services with a goal to continue improving the cane’s navigational abilities.
