Ian Unger is a 6-year-old in Michigan, living with Type-1 Diabetes, and needs his insulin levels monitored constantly.
The family had been looking into getting a service dog, trained to sense when Ian’s insulin levels are dropping, just by scent, but a service dog like this can cost up to $25K. Even if you do shell out the $25K, it could still take up to a year before getting the service animal.
Together, Ian and his mom knew they needed to start raising some money, so they came up with the idea of growing their own pumpkins to sell for Halloween.
Ian and his mom put the photos of the pumpkins on Facebook a few weeks ago, with large pumpkins costing $10 and small ones at $5.
Here’s the thing . . . Once people learned what the funds were being used for, the SOLD OUT!
The sales of the pumpkins definitely put a dent in their $25K goal, but with the story going viral after a local news outlet picked it up, Ian’s mom decided to launch a fundraiser on Facebook.
As of this posting, the fundraiser on Facebook as garnered $22,871.
