Many people will grow their hair out in an effort to donate it to have wigs made for for kids and others battling cancer, and one little girl is ready to join in.
Caleigh Pesina may only be 6 years old, but she’s become Los Lunas, New Mexico’s very own Rapunzel. She’s growing out her hair for other kids.
The incredible six year old shares that she wanted to do this, “to make wigs for little girls to make them feel pretty again.”
It all started when she was 4 and decided to have a pretty big hair cut, chopping off her then long locks to donate to Wigs for Kids.
Caleigh and her mom, Nicole, were watching TV one day a couple years ago when a commercial for St. Jude Children’s Hospital came on and Caleigh asked her mom why the kids on the screen didn’t have any hair.
Nicole explained to her daughter that “they had cancer.”
It was that moment Caleigh first made the decision that she wanted to donate her long hair.
“[Cayleigh] always had a big heart, from donating her hair, to buying the homeless population food,” the proud mother shares, continuing, “She just told me she wants to cut her hair and wated to donate it, and after that, is when we talked about it and she said she wants to grow it for two years and [then cut it again].”
The latest cut is happening this month!
The salon where Caleigh gets her hair cut, Revive Hair Salon, is helping out with Cayleigh’s efforts and says that she’s inspired others to get involved as well.
The salon has said they will cut anyone’s hair for free who is coming in to donate their hair.
Wigs for Kids makes wigs at no cost to the families of the children battling cancer.
