Family, friends & comrades, welcome home soldiers

FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) More soldiers with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team , “STRIKE”, 221 to be exact, had a very happy ending to their nine-month deployment to Iraq as they returned to Fort Campbell Tuesday night. As with all Welcome Home Ceremonies, the troops stepped off the plane to cheers from family and friends waiting for them. Major Aaron Childers was held closely by his wife and four children and talked about coming home. “It’s great to be home with all of the family. It’s an honor to come back after a good mission there in Iraq and see our loved ones again,” said Childers. The excitement of the moment was also shared by his wife Christine. “It’s pretty amazing, I don’t know how to put it into words. It’s one of the highlights of being a military family is the homecoming. To get to do these with the kids and get to see them experience it is really cool,” said Childers. The oldest of the Major’s youngsters, 6-year-old son Timothy, was not at a loss for words about dad coming home. “It’s really fun because he’s really fun, and I really missed him when he was in Iraq for nine months and I’m really glad that he’s home,” the young Childers said. Another flight carrying 2nd Brigade soldiers is scheduled to arrive at Campbell Army Airfield this Sunday. Learn more about being a part of Welcome Home Ceremonies at Fort Campbell.
