Don’t Mess With My Cast Iron

Do you still use cast iron?  We do.  We lover it too.  In the age where you have all this Teflon covered cooking stuff, to me something about cast iron just makes the food taste better.  I know it’s probably just me, but I really think it does.  Anyway, I am discovering fewer and fewer people are cooking with cast iron anymore.  I get it.  It’s heavy and you have to take care of how you clean it between uses.  Don’t get me started on how many people I’ve talked to that think it’s OK to put a cast iron skillet into the dishwasher.  NO!  Don’t do it.  You use some hot water and maybe a little Dawn if you really need it, but if you have it seasoned well, you don’t need anything but a little water and a towel.  I take pride in our seasoned cast iron and if you use it just about every day, you probably do too.  It’s not something you think about all the time but when you see that well seasoned skillet, I don’t know, for me it’s like an invitation.  It’s like it’s saying cook with me, now.
