Dogs left in feces-covered basement

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The following are recent cases handled by Montgomery County Animal Care and Control. Contact them at 931-648-5750. BALLS ROAD – On October 6 Animal Control received an anonymous call about two dogs that had been left in a basement with no room to move around. The dogs were lying in their own feces and drinking water filled with bugs that had dripped from the air conditioning unit. An Animal Control officer met with the owners, who had two other dogs and two cats living upstairs in the residence with them. The owners agreed it was in the best interest of the dogs in the basement to surrender them to Animal Control. They were issued a notice to comply with rabies vaccination requirements for their other animals.

1600 BLOCK FORT CAMPBELL BLVD. – Animal Control received a call regarding a dog found in a dumpster on September 30. Upon arrival they met with a complainant who heard the dog whining while taking out trash to the shared bin at the apartment complex. She looked inside and found a dog that had been thrown in the dumpster. She washed the filth-covered dog and contacted Animal Control. An officer responded to pick up the dog. No one has come forward at this time.

LOWES DRIVE – On Oct. 4, Animal Control received an after hours call about a kitten that was crying and possibly caught in a drain pipe. The officer could hear the kitten in the pipe but could not locate him. She dug the pipe up to find another hole, shined a flashlight inside, and saw the small brown kitten three feet down the pipe. The officer was able to pull the kitten out of the pipe with the help of a Lowe’s employee who had small arms. The kitten was immediately transported to the shelter.

WOODLAWN ROAD – On September 27 Animal Control received a call about a tan dog hanging around the caller’s house. Animal Control found a dog that had given birth to eight puppies under a tarp covering lawn mowers. The dog was extremely protective of her puppies and would not let an officer near her, so the officer set a humane trap. The complainant monitored the trap and called Animal Control when the dog went inside. Animal Control picked up the dog and puppies and transported them to the shelter. They have been placed in a foster home.
