Did You Know Mini-Golf (Putt-Putt) Started In Tennessee?

Today (September 21st) is National Mini-Golf Day!

I celebrated by going to D&D Blacklight Mini Golf in Clarksville.  It was a really fun place but the 3-D glasses started to mess with me after a while.

Mini-Golf or Putt-Putt have been around since the early 1900’s. 1912 is the earlier documentation of mini-golf but 1916 is when mini-golf courses went into production in Pinehurst, NC.  Shortly after that in 1927 Garnet Carter came up with Tom Thumb (in Lookout Mountain, TN), a chain of mini-golf courses throughout the country. Mini Golf became so popular that in 1930 Lookout Mountain held the first ever Mini Golf National Championship which had over 200 players.

Mini Golf isn’t so much of a sport anymore, it’s more a about a casual night out with the family or a fun date night.
