Dangerous Summer Toys

2108’s list of most-dangerous toys for kids has been released, thanks to a consumer protection group, further proving you can’t “be safe and have fun” simultaneously. (Just kidding)

On the list of dangerous “toys” are:

  1. Water balloon slingshots, because they can cause eye injuries and the smaller pieces present potential choking hazards.
  2. Lawn darts, though the kind with the pointed tips have been outlawed since 1988, they can still cause head injuries.
  3. Big Wheels and other low-rider tricycles sit so low that it’s hard to really see where you’re driving.
  4. Swimming pools, even the little baby blow up pools, are a major risk.  Never leave your child unattended in/near a pool.  A child can drown in less than 2 inches of water, and it can all happen in less than 30 seconds.  Even adults should still practice the buddy system when in a pool.
  5. Slip ‘N Slides pose a real risk for head, neck and spine injuries. Seriously, people have been paralyzed, and adults really need to be careful… We’re bigger and heavier than our younger counterparts and tend to slide faster. There’s a reason the packaging on these say they’re just for kids.
