Did you parental units ever use the line, “My house, my rules” when you were growing up?
A new survey looked at some of the most common “Rules of the House” our parents had for us, and, besides the obvious curfew rules (BTW, the average curfew time is 8:30 PM), here are the top 10 rules:
- Always say “please” and “thank you.” 50% said it’s a rule in their home.
- Always be kind, 49%.
- Before you can play, you have to finish your homework, 48%.
- Always put things back where you found them, 46%. That’s also the #1 rule kids BREAK, according to the survey.
- Clean the table after dinner, 46%.
- Having dinner together as a family, 44%.
- No phones at the table, 41%.
- Help carry the groceries in, 37%.
- No yelling in the house, 36%.
- You can’t go to bed angry, 34%.
Fletch grew up in a “turn the light off when you leave the room” house rules . . . Jai’s family was more of the “take your shoes off when you enter the house” type of family.
What rules did you have growing up? What rules to you enforce in your home now?
