Clarksville man charged with assault at movie theater over popcorn

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) A Clarksville man is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer at a theater on Tiny Town Road. The incident was reported at 11:30 p.m. Sunday. According to a press release, 50-year-old Paul West became irate because the theater’s concession stand was closed and they would not sell him popcorn. After the staff refused to fill the container, he threw it at the employee, knocked over a display in the lobby, and then ran off into the theater. Upon arrival, Officer Jennifer Renken observed the damage and disarray caused by West who was located inside one of the theaters. Renken attempted to detain him when he threw a trash can at her and punched her several times in the face. When she took him to the ground and restrained him, he continued to attempt punching and biting her.
