I will start by asking, how many of us growing up didn’t wash all of our food before we ate it? I mean if we were in the house, we might run some water over a tomato or something, or after stringing green beans, we’d run water over them before we canned them or whatever. But blackberries, strawberries, apples, all that kind of food that just kind of grew wild, I never thought about washing it before I ate it. Well, here’s Moriah enjoying a strawberry the other day while we were out enjoying the Vintage Fair at Beachhaven. A vendor had a booth selling strawberries and my baby girl wanted some. So we bought a small basket and she wanted a strawberry so I just let her grab one. After she had asked for about 3 more, i started thinking, these didn’t grow wild, and I’m sure they may have even used some sort of spray to help control pest or fungus. Then I started, not really freaking out but wondering if I did a bad thing. I guess i should have washed them before she ate one. Seems like all of us are obsessed with washing our food and making sure it’s, at least in our minds, clean. But we will let Moriah play with all kinds of critters and play in the mud, dig for worms, and all sorts of things but I freak out a bit over three strawberries that I didn’t wash? Seems stupid but I did after she had inhaled them. She did say, “mmmm, these are good”. So did I do a bone head daddy move or not?
