Back Sleepers Fall Asleep Faster, Side Sleepers Stay Asleep Longer

Looking for to fall asleep faster . . . stay asleep longer . . . have less issues in your marriage?

Well, look no further!

A poll surveyed people on their sleeping habits and found that each position has its pros and cons:

BACK SLEEPERS – Folks who prefer the “back-sleep” style tend to take an average of 20 minutes and 6 seconds to fall asleep. However, they only average 5 hours and 17 minutes of sleep a night.  These are the people more likely than anyone else to describe themselves as “early birds,” but they also tend to sleepwalk and talk in their sleep the most.  Oh, AND they have the most nightmares.

SIDE SLEEPERS – Those with a preference for sleeping on their side usually take 23 minutes and 53 seconds to fall asleep. That’s almost four minutes longer than the back sleepers.  Although, side sleepers get 5 hours and 47 minutes of sleep a night — an extra 30 minutes.  These are the folks most likely to describe themselves as “night owls.”

STOMACH SLEEPERS – These sleepers tend to take about 22 minutes and 31 seconds to fall asleep, and tend to get about 5 hours and 39 minutes of sleep per night. They’re also less likely to be an early bird OR a night owl.

The survey also looked at sharing a bed with a spouse and found some of the biggest frustrations are when our spouse gets up in the middle of the night . . . when they toss and turn . . . and when they snore. So basically, our spouse existing next to us while trying to sleep is enough to get our cranky pants on . . .

On another note, married couples who spoon tend to have fewer marriage issues than couples who sleep back-to-back.
