Someone had a chat with an actual hacker about missteps online users make that put them at risk:
1. Forgetting to change your password/s regularly. Yes, it’s THAT important. Especially if you’ve been using the same one or two passwords for EVERYTHING since 2013.
2. Your kid posting a photo of their new driver’s licence with ALL the info in full view. Or parents who are so excited about their newborn they aren’t noticing they’ve posted photos/videos to social media with the medical bracelet or other steal-able info on display.
3. Posting about your new home and including a shot of your house key. Yeah… Hackers can reverse image search to get your info and see where you live, get a copy made of your key from the photo alone, and if you geo-tagged your post then you pretty much just served yourself to the hacker on a silver platter.
4. Forgetting about your background. A work selfie may pass the time, but don’t forget about that post-it with all your passwords just sitting in the background, or that auto-deposit pay stub on your desk with your bank details.
Bottom line, it’s near impossible to avoid being hacked if someone out there really wants to do it and has the skill set, but the idea is to make stealing your info such a hassle that hackers will skip over you and move on to someone else.
