Jelly Roll Gets Emotional Returning to Nashville Prison

CBS Sunday Morning highlighted Jelly Roll‘s inspiring story this past Sunday. We’re all familiar with the story of his days being locked up in a Nashville jail to his rise to fame across many genres on the charts.

As part of the special, the show took Jelly Roll back to the Metro-Davidson Detention Facility where he promised himself that he would do better for his daughter.

Seeing the cell got him choked up a bit saying, “There was a time in my life where I truly thought . . . this was it.  Coming here, you know, just after getting nominated for two Grammys, it just hits different. I didn’t think I’d get emotional, to be honest.  Even when I left here, I didn’t have a plan.  I knew that I loved music, and I knew it was the only thing I had any skill set in.”

Jelly Roll is inspiring on so many levels including his vulnerability in sharing his emotions over the extreme highs and lows of his life thus far. You can see how thankful he is for all of the opportunities that have been presented to him. He feels a calling to help, to serve, to be real. And he makes music that is moving country, fans, rock fans, and fans of music everywhere. What a treasure.

I can’t wait to see how his career and life progresses.
