Stapleton Tops the Chart

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Singer Chris Stapleton, who made Clarksville a regular stop in his early years has now shot to the top of the U.S. albums chart following the Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) last week.

Chris Stapleton played the Gilroy on University Avenue several years ago and returned to host the Beaver 100.3 Songwriter Showcase three years ago.

The singer performed a headline-grabbing duet with Justin Timberlake at last week’s CMA awards ceremony, and picked up three top trophies, including Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for his debut disc “Traveller.”

The record peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200 chart when it was released in May and it dropped out in September, but sales have soared since the ceremony and “Traveller” is now number one spot.

“We’ve been following Chris for years and are playing cuts from his album” said JT Daniels, Brand Manager for radio station Beaver 100.3.

Daniels said the station is now planning the next season of the Songwriter Showcase for 2016, though he’s not sure he can get Stapleton back for a return performance in Clarksville.

“We haven’t made the call yet, but I’m guessing his price has gone up just a bit,” said Daniels, laughing. “We will make the call though,” he said with a wink.
