Women songwriters are lucky, they can “paint with a few more colors” than men songwriters

Brandy Clark was talking about what it’s like to be a woman in country, and says women are lucky . . . because they can, quote, “paint with a few more colors” than men.

Then she gave an interesting example:  On her first record, the song “Stripes” is from the perspective of a woman who’s fantasizing about killing the guy who cheated on her.  She doesn’t pull the trigger  . . . but only because she doesn’t want to wear a prison uniform.

Quote, “A guy couldn’t get away with that . . . even thinking about it.  So that’s pretty lucky as a girl.”  It’s worth noting that Brandy also wrote “Better Dig Two” for The Band Perry.  Maybe she’s trying to tell us something?

Anyway, think about it.  In this day and age, what male singer could fantasize about murdering a WOMAN?  Especially in a lighthearted way.  They couldn’t.

Brandy also says guys have to fit more of a type to be popular . . . Chris Stapleton aside . . . and that women can go a few more places than men sonically too.  So basically, it’s an exciting time to be a woman in country.
