The fashion world has lost Kate Spade in an apparent suicide

Fashion designer Kate Spade has been found dead of an apparent suicide in her Manhattan, NY home, law enforcement say. She was 55 years old.

A senior law enforcement official say, a staff member found Kate Spade hanged from a red scarf on a bedroom door at her Park Avenue residence Tuesday morning.

According to the Associated Press, a note was found at the scene, though the details of that note weren’t immediately clear. Officials caution the investigation is in its preliminary stages.

The company she founded, Kate Spade New York, now has over 140 retail shops and outlet stores across the U.S. and more than 175 shops internationally.
