Netflix’s answer to lost subscribers

Netflix raised prices recently, then before that and before that and before that. I’m pretty certain these hikes lead to lost subscribers…I’m just spit-balling here.  Yesterday, they announced that they lost 200,000 subscribers.  That’s not good for business, right? This is the first time they’ve lost users in a decade. But they also announced that they’re rolling out a cheaper version with ads.

But this may not happen for another year or two. So pay or get off the toilet…I don’t think that’s how the saying goes, but you get it, right?

Here’s the thing, with all these subscription streaming services these days, if you got all of them, you’d be paying almost as much as cable, but then you still have to get Wi-Fi which can cost ya.  Remember when cutting the cord was a thing?  Yeah, leave it to greed to take that away from us! Honestly, this is where cable really has a chance to shine…but with all the networks taking their stuff to streaming, they may not have anything eventually.  You’ll have to evolve somehow.

Netflix has always resisted the idea of an ad-supported version, but they’re embracing it now as a way of bringing in new subscribers. Plus they’re also seeing it work for competitors like Hulu and Peacock.
