Hacker may have private info of 44,000 TennCare members

Here we go again!  Keep a watch on your or kids private info!  The private information of nearly 44,000 TennCare members may have been stolen by a hacker or hackers who breached the email system of the agency’s pharmacy management vendor.

The info that was potentially compromised includes names, social security numbers, member IDs, health plans, provider names and the names of drugs members have been prescribed.

Both TennCare and Magellan Health Systems have known about the risk for two months.  They did not announce the breach or tell people with breached info until Friday.

The fiasco started when the information was compromised when a Magellan employee fell for a phishing scheme, which allowed hackers to gain access to his email account, which contained the members’ information…that’s according to a Magellan press release.

As a result of this, the company is letting those impacted by the breach, TennCare members and offering credit monitoring services, the news release states.
