An unlikely 37 year friendship

A retired postman in Turkey’s western Edirne province, found a wounded female swan 37 years ago. The man, Recep Mirzan, was in this car with a group of friends, taking a shortcut, when they noticed a swan with a broken wing in an empty field.

Mirzan, caught the swan and took her in to protect her from predators, keeping her in the car until he could take her home.

Garip the swan has lived on Mirzan’s farm ever since. In case you want to know, Garip translates to “bizarre” but is also used to describe those who are down on their luck.

Whenever she is out of her pen, Garip follows Mirzan around the farm as he works his farm or even follows him around on evening walks.
