Work week weather: Heat index of 112 to start, but cooler temps by Friday

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The week will start with extreme heat, with indexes topping 112. But there’s an increasing chance of thunderstorms, and temperatures should drop to the mid-80s by Friday.

A Heat Advisory has been issued through Wednesday at 8 p.m.; hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, according to the National Weather Service.

“Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening,” the NWS said. “Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”

Here’s the day-by-day outlook:

  • Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1pm and 5pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 112. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
  • Monday night: Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 76. Calm wind.
  • Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Sunny, with a high near 96. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 5 mph.
  • Tuesday night: Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 76. Calm wind.
  • Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 95. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph.
  • Wednesday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Calm wind.
  • Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
  • Thursday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
  • Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84.
  • Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.
