FLOOD UPDATE: Dunbar Cave Road closed, rivers to crest above flood stage

Update, 5:35 p.m.: As of 4:30 p.m., the Red River at Port Royal was at 38.13 feet. The river was expected to crest at 38.5 feet, which is 8.5 feet over flood stage.

There has been damage to several homes in neighborhoods in the Tiny Town Road area.

As of 4 p.m., the Cumberland River was at 46.51 feet and was expected to crest at 48 feet, 2 feet above flood stage.

Update, 5:15 p.m.: Dunbar Cave Road has been closed because of flooding. Floodwaters have covered the bridge over the creek flowing out of Swan Lake, the city reported.

The Street Department also has closed parts of Idaho Springs Road, Front Street and Acuff Road near the creek because of the flooding.

The creek flows into the Red River, which is swollen from recent heavy rains, according to a city news release.

Update, 3:10 p.m.: As of 2 p.m., the Cumberland River is at 46.38 feet and rising. Flood stage is 46 feet.

As of 2:30 p.m., the Red River was at 37.98 feet and rising. Flood stage is Flood stage is 30 feet.

Update: 12:15 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Cumberland River at Clarksville through Tuesday night.

At 11 a.m. Monday, the stage was 45.79 feet and rising. Flood stage is 46.0 feet. The river is expected to crest near 48.4 feet Tuesday morning. It will then fall below flood stage early Wednesday.

At 46 feet, water approaches properties near Salem Road and Seven Mile Ferry Road.

At 48 feet, water approaches properties near Kraft Street and Providence Boulevard, and begins to cover Riverside Drive at McClure Street near Cumberland Drive.

Update, 12:01 p.m.: The Red River has reached a stage of 37.02 feet, which is 7 feet above flood stage.

Residents around the Red River and West Fork Creek are reporting high water levels near their homes.

“I’ve never seen it that high,” said Jessica Coy, whose Clearwater Drive home is across the street from Big West Fork Creek.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – People living near the Red River in Port Royal are seeing minor flooding today, with more coming through Tuesday after a weekend of heavy rains.

At 7:30 a.m. Monday, the river stage was 34.79 feet and rising. Flood stage is 30.0 feet.

The river is expected to rise to a crest of 37.9 feet just after midnight tonight, according to the NWS forecast. It will then fall below flood stage late Tuesday evening.

At 38.0 feet, water begins to approach homes off of Clarksville-Springfield Road.

“All the water we had this weekend obviously has to go somewhere, so some of the larger creeks and streams probably will still rise over the next few days,” said Nashville NWS meteorologist Caroline Adcock.

“If you do encounter a flooded roadway, just make sure that you turn around – don’t try to pass through it. We don’t want your car getting swept away or anything like that.”

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Red River at Port Royal. All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas, the NWS alert said.

Cumberland River

The NWS has issued a Flood Advisory for the Cumberland River at Clarksville from this evening to Thursday morning.

At 8 p.m. Sunday, the river stage was 40.1 feet and rising. Action stage is 40.0 feet. Flood stage is 46.0 feet.

The river is expected to rise to a crest of 43.1 feet early Tuesday afternoon.

At 40.0 feet, low lying areas along the river, including agricultural areas, access points, and portions of Riverfront Park on North Riverside Drive begin to be inundated. Water also backs up adjacent tributaries, including Bartons Creek, Red River, West Fork Red River, and Yellow Creek.

At 43.0 feet, water inundates low lying areas of industrial property on Zinc Plant Road. Water also backs up adjacent tributaries, including Bartons Creek, Red River, West Fork Red River and Yellow Creek.
