CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A suspect is in custody for his involvement in the attempted murder of 15-year-old teenager last July and has turned 18 and has now been identified.

Kwamey Sykes was 17 years old when he entered the Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville ER with a gunshot wound to the hand at about 5:18 p.m. on July 23, 2023.

Only 20 minutes earlier, Clarksville Police received a 911 call that someone had been shot in the area of Eagles Bluff Drive. Officers found a 15-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was flown to Nashville by LifeFlight helicopter.

A neighbor’s doorbell camera captured the moments when the neighborhood was disrupted by the teen’s screams and cries for help as he was thrown from a moving vehicle. The 15-year-old was in critical condition, but he was eventually stabilized and survived the shooting.

A juvenile petition was served on Sykes for his involvement in the crime, and a few months later, on Nov. 3, 2023, CPD served an order holding a juvenile for prosecution as an adult on Sykes. On July 1, 18-year-old Sykes was charged again for the July 2023 crime, this time as an adult for attempted first-degree murder.

He is set to appear in court at the Montgomery County Courts Complex on Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.
