CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville is now home to the world record for largest spam musubi ever made. The enormous combination of spam, rice and nori weighted in at 1,120 pounds, shattering the previous record of 628 lbs.

Thursday, Kimo’s Hawaiian Grill, Waterdogs Scuba, YAIpaks and Loaves & Fishes joined together to raise money for those in need as they strove to beat a world record.

According to YAIpaks, Spam the Love raised just over $3,000. The money raised will be divided between YAIpaks and Loaves & Fishes.

Spam Musubi is a popular Hawaiian treat made from rice and spam wrapped in nori.

The previous record holder for largest spam musubi is Edward Sugimoto of Honolulu. The musubi made by Sugimoto and his team weighed in at 284.86 kilograms (approximately 628 lbs) on Sept. 28, 2012.

As of Jan.1, 2021, the Guinness World Record website has not been updated to show the new record.

According to Guinness’s rules for food-based records, any food used must afterward be donated to a food distribution non profit organization.

After being weighted, the musubi was deconstructed and repackaged for use by Loaves & Fishes.
