CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A section of Tracy Lane that accessed Whitfield Road will be closed to traffic for about a week as the city continues their efforts toward the completion of the road widening project.
Beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 11, until Sept. 18, a portion of Tracy Lane that leads onto Whitfield will be closed off pending roadway expansion work, according to the City of Clarksville.
In June 2023, Clarksville had several key road projects in the works. Currently, these projects are in varying stages of completion, with some nearly finished with construction, and others in the early stages of design and acquisition.
The Whitfield Road Project had been put on hold from 2022-23 because of private utility companies’ slow response in relocating utilities from the designated rights-of-way. Recently, Whitfield saw the completion of Clarksville’s first roundabout, nicknamed Rhonda by residents. Drivers through the area have complained of immediate traffic backups on the roundabout, and city officials have explained that’s because the project is not yet complete, with widenings of nearby roads coming next, including improvements at Tracy Lane.
Improvements will be made to Tracy Lane and 101st Airborne Division Parkway intersections with Whitfield along with the Needmore Road intersection. Construction efforts in the area are still ongoing.
Here are a few of the other key road projects ongoing at this time:
- Rossview Road/Dunbar Cave Road: With phase one completed, phase two of widening Rossview to three lanes from Dunbar Cave Road to Keysburg Road is ongoing. It also includes the realignment of Dunbar Cave Road across from Cardinal Lane and the signalization of the Rossview and Cardinal intersection
- Spring Creek Parkway: a new 3-mile four-lane divided road, will connect Trenton Road with Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
- Tylertown Road/Oakland Road: design work and acquisition is still ongoing, but the city plans to widen Tylertown Road and is working on acquiring right-of-way for phases 2 and 3, which extends on Tylertown from Cindy Jo to Oakland Road, and on Oakland from Tylertown to Meriwether Road. These phases of the project would create a three-lane road section with sidewalks on both sides.
- Memorial Drive/Old Farmers Road/Trough Springs: still in the early stages of design and engineering, would widen Memorial Drive Extension by approximately 1.85 miles to three lanes with sidewalks. The project will extend from Richview Road/Warfield Boulevard to Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, and a new alignment will connect Memorial to MLK Parkway at Old Farmers Road.
- Needmore Road/Boy Scout Road to Tinytown Road: design and engineering is still ongoing, but the City expects about 1.76 miles of widening, which would include five lanes with sidewalks. The project would extend from Tiny Town Road to the Spring Creek Bridge.
- Exit 1: With acquisition completed, design and engineering work is in progress to create traffic signals and a ramp, as well as improve lighting and a slip lane.
