CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – 5 Star Media Group and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation held the annual Stuff the Bus event this weekend at Walmart locations on Madison Street and Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
The event is held each year to collect donations of wish-list items that will stock the Teacher Warehouse. This year’s list includes staple school supply items as well as everything from baby wipes and Band-Aids to White-Out and Ziploc bags.
CMCSS Director of Schools Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder was at the Sango Walmart location with a handful of volunteers from Rotary Club, CMCSS and the CMC Education Foundation.
“Today is our annual Stuff the Bus event,” Dr. Luna-Vedder said. “Our Education Foundation puts this on every year to make sure our teachers have all the classroom supplies they need, items above and beyond anything that’s already furnished through the school.”
Buses were set up at the two Walmart locations, and volunteers accepted donations from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Arye Boutwell and Joyce Brittain were volunteering on behalf of the Clarksville Rotary Club. Brittain is a retired teacher who works with the Big Brothers Big Sisters school-based program. Boutwell said Rotary Club members, “love to volunteer, anytime we can be of help to the community. I’ve been working the door with Joyce for a while, and people seem very happy to help. Everyone is taking our fliers, and we’ve actually collected quite a bit since I’ve been here. It’s a good turnout.”
Luna-Vedder said this event, “traditionally does very well. We also take donations throughout the year. We’ve had amazing community partners help us fill our warehouse. On Monday we will unload all the donated items at our Teacher’s Warehouse.”
