CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Northeast boys basketball came up short in the Region 5AAA championship Thursday at Springfield, falling to Mt. Juliet 54-44.
The Eagles got off to a rough start offensively and trailed 16-2 after the game’s opening quarter.
Northeast battled back, but couldn’t string together enough stops on the defensive end of the floor.
After the game, the Eagles had three players selected to the All-Region team including Marcus Averhart, Jaylen Miller and Jalen Hooks.
Northeast will travel to take on the winner of Summit and Hillsboro Monday in a SubState game.
Tuesday
Northeast hangs on for win in region semifinals
After defeating Gallatin 53-40 Saturday in the Region 5AAA quarterfinals, Northeast boys basketball narrowly escaped Station Camp Tuesday by a score of 44-42 to advance to the championship game.
Marcus Averhart buried a clutch three-pointer late to give the Eagles a 43-30 lead before grabbing a critical offensive rebound on a Northeast missed free throw.
Station Camp couldn’t connect on the final shot of the game, as Northeast took the victory.
Averhart finished with a team-high 12 points followed by Ty Jackson and Jalen Hooks with nine points each.
Cam Gerlach led the Bison with a game-high 16 points.
Wildcats offense stymied in loss to Golden Bears
Clarksville boys basketball saw its season come to an end Tuesday at Springfield, suffering a 70-40 loss to Mt. Juliet.
Jaheim Berry led the Wildcats with 11 points while JJ Wheat scored nine points and Jamarco Mimms finished with seven points.
Will Pruitt recorded a game-high 26 points to help the Golden Bears pull away.
Clarksville finished its season with a 18-10 record.
Monday
Lady Hawks’ comeback falls short in region semifinals
A sluggish start plagued Rossview girls basketball Monday at Springfield, as the Lady Hawks’ season came to an end 57-48 at the hands of Beech.
The Lady Buccaneers began the contest on a 13-0 run and took a 27-19 lead into the break.
Deshiya Hoosier torched the Lady Hawks with a game-high 24 points.
Rossview cut the deficit to two points in the final minute of the game before Beech put an end to the comeback.
Ever Walker and Kayla Gilmore led the Lady Hawks with 14 points each.
Rossview wrapped up its season with a 26-4 record.
Lady Vikings outpaced by Lebanon in loss
Northwest girls basketball was unable to withstand Lebanon’s early surge in an eventual 65-26 loss Monday at Springfield.
Madison King propelled the Lady Vikings to a hot start offensively, chipping in eight points right out of the gate.
However, the Lady Devilettes continued to pour in baskets throughout including Allissa Mulaski who finished with a game-high 29 points.
Ta’Mia Scott led Northwest with a team-high nine points.
Lebanon went on to win the Region 5AAA championship after taking down Beech 49-45 on Wednesday.
