CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization, VSO, along with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4895, held their annual Flag Day Retirement Ceremony Sunday, June 14, at the VFW Post in Clarksville.

An estimated 1,000 worn, damaged, and non-serviceable American flags were properly destroyed, by burning in a dignified manner at the ceremony.

The VSO was assisted by scouts from Cub Scout Pack 503 and Boy Scout Troop 289.  Clarksville Fire Rescue Firefighters were also on site as a safety precaution.

For future flag retirement ceremonies, damaged or worn flags may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday at the Veterans Service Organization office, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 308, at Veterans Plaza in Clarksville.
