CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Federal disaster assistance is now available to 11 counties in the state of Tennessee, including Montgomery County, in an effort to help those areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that took place earlier this year on May 8 and 9.

President Joe Biden approved the Major Disaster Declaration for Tennessee on Tuesday, June 18, according to a FEMA press release. FEMA said public assistance federal funding is available to the state, eligible local governments and private non-profit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the natural disasters.

In addition to Montgomery County being eligible for federal assistance, Cannon, Cheatham, Giles, Hamilton, Jackson, Macon, Maury, Polk, Smith, Sumner and Warren counties are eligible as well. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Leda Khoury will work as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas listed above.

Assistance to individuals and households are currently still under review, according to FEMA.
