CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Now Player of the Week series is back for the 2022-23 high school football season. The player that is being recognized for his Week 1 performance is Montgomery Central running back Andrew White.

The Player of the Week series will highlight and celebrate players’ individual performances throughout Montgomery County, with athletes selected based on statistics compiled Monday to Sunday.

A wide range of players deserved the recognition after the first week of play, but Montgomery Central’s running back had the advantage for a number of reasons, the main one being the amount of all purpose yards he had against Sycamore.

Week 1

White gained a total of 164 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns with his 11 carries in the Indians win against the War Eagles. Half of his rushing total came on two plays where he ran for more than 40 yards which led to a pair of touchdowns.

The senior running back averaged 14.9 yards per carry on the night. White’s ability to find space and make defenders miss played into the impact he had on the ground.

In addition to his rushing output, he caught 2 passes for 54 yards receiving as well. One of those receptions was a 20 yard touchdown catch that put the game out of reach. With that being said, White accounted for 218 all purpose yards during week 1 of the season, while finding the end zone three times.

“This start to the season means a lot to me,” said White. “Right now, I don’t have too much interest and to start off the season the way I did was very meaningful. I’m hoping my play will help with my recruitment process and get me noticed by colleges.”

White added that he feels extremely comfortable in the team’s new offensive system. He stated that his position in the backfield allows him to have a good vantage point, and it’s easier to find the gap to run through.

Coaches corner

“It means everything to have a player like Andrew on the team,” said Head Coach Corey Wright. ” As a first year coach, he is one of the players I never have to worry about. I have a lot of confidence in Andrew as a leader and ball carrier.

“He’s one of the reasons I wanted to coach this team moving forward. I’ve gotten a chance to watch him develop into the player and young man that he is today. Andrew and other players have bought into what we are building here. Our leaders have taken a grip on this team, and we are in good hands.”

White has a number of goals that he hopes to achieve during his final high school football season. The first goal is that he is eager for Montgomery Central to return to the playoffs. The other is the running back wants to simply improve, with a chance to rush for over 1,000 yards this year.

White has not decided where he will be attending college, but plans to study architecture or criminology.

• Northwest High running back Jewuan Moffett; 19 carries for 184 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.
• Clarksville High safety Cam Stahley; 7 total tackles, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles.
• Kenwood High running back Keyontae Showell; over 100 rushing yards with a touchdown and a 85 yard kick return for a touchdown.
• Fort Campbell quarterback Darin Frederick; 18 for 27 with 300 passing yards and 3 touchdowns.
• Clarksville Academy wide receiver Cooper Wallace; 3 receptions for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns.
