Man charged with abuse and neglect, death of 2-month-old baby in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville man has been arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect, resulting in the death on a 2-month-old baby.

After being indicted by a Montgomery County Grand Jury, on July 22, Vincent Coleman, 51, was arrested on multiple charges, including felony murder and aggravated child abuse and neglect.

According to Clarksville Police spokesman, Scott Beaubien, this comes in the wake of an almost yearlong investigation.

On Sept. 10, 2023, Department of Children’s Services (DCS) notified CPD of a suspected child abuse case that took occurred at a residence on Baltimore Drive the previous day. Detectives from the Special Operation Special Victims Unit and Homicide unit responded to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the initial investigation, according to Beaubien.

Three days later, on Sept. 13, the 2-month-old child died as a result of his injuries, and the case was transferred to the Special Operations Homicide Unit.

Detective Keenan Carlton took over the investigation, and evidence was presented to the July 2024 Montgomery County Grand Jury, who returned with an indictment for Coleman on the charges of first degree murder in perpetration of a crime and aggravated child abuse.

Coleman was booked into Montgomery County Jail and is awaiting trial.
