Local breweries untapped: Tennessee Valley Brewing celebrates with brews at the church, ugly sweaters

For this Christmas season, Tennessee Valley Brewing Company is celebrating a few of its favorite things: “Beer at the church and ugly sweaters, / New-flavored brews, / It just keeps getting better. / A fun, hop-ping party /As New Years they ring. / These are a few of their favorite things!”

Eric and Wendy Brannstrom, the husband and wife owners of Tennessee Valley Brewing Company (TVBC), stopped in to talk about all their favorite December things with Samantha Knight, Z97.5 afternoon host, for “I’d Tap That,” a 13-week radio series that explores the local craft beer brewery scene.

They brought four beers for Knight to taste as she wrapped up the series: The Eagle (named in honor of the Screaming Eagles), a double IPA called Passion Fruit, a Veteran’s Day-inspired beer called 11.11.11. and a temperature-controlled beer called Smokey and the Braggot (a nod to law enforcement), which has chocolate and honey notes.

What’s brewing?

TVBC has a lot of events planned to give their customers a chance to try some of their popular favorites and new brews.

  • On Dec. 12, Christ Lutheran Church will host the German Christmas Market with TVBC serving beer and German food. Tennessee Valley Brewery will be selling several beers: lingonberry ale beer, Passion Fruit and Blood Orange IPA, Grandma’s Pecan Pie and Vanilla Bean Expresso Beer. Christ Lutheran is at 2425 Kirkwood Road. The event is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • On Dec. 18, TVBC will host the fourth annual adults-only Ugly Sweater Christmas Party at the brewery. Attendees are asked to wear their ugliest (and most inappropriate) Christmas sweater. The party begins at 7 p.m. Tennessee Valley Brewing Company is at 2088 Lowes Drive, Suite H.
  • On Dec. 19 at 1 p.m., they will be hosting a family-friendly event, Christmas Ornament Painting and Teddy Bear Party at TVBC.

Throughout the month, the business is asking for donations for YAIPaks Outreach, a nonprofit that helps homeless veterans.

They are collecting nonperishable food items, kitchen, bathroom and personal items. Those who donate will receive $1 off their beer purchase.

To say farewell to 2020, on Dec. 31, they will host a New Year’s Eve Party that will begin at 7 p.m. at the brewery.

New brews

Flavors coming out at TBVC soon are the Kumquat Sour and a Pomegranate Sour.

They will also be making a Christmas Braggot, a beer that uses honey as part of its fermentable.

A new creation designed to titillate the palette is the Bacon Bourbon Barrel, made by using a pound of bacon and bourbon to create an aged liquor. The liquor liquid is mixed with oak chips, which are then added in the beer batch. This is a limited time, small batch.

They will also be making “Ninkasi’s Hymn,” a Sumarian beer. Ninkasi, the Sumarian goddess of beer making, inspired the beverage made with nontraditional ingredients such as cardamom, turmeric, honey, dates, raisins and more.

They invite you to come to Tennessee Valley Brewery Company for one of their fun events or to try one of their limited time unique craft beers.

They are open Monday-Thursday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday-Saturday, noon to midnight, and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, they brew and offer you a chance to come taste and smell.
