CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kirkwood Elementary School opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday. Kirkwood Elementary completes the three-school campus with Kirkwood Middle and Kirkwood High, which opened in the last two years.

Kirkwood Elementary is one of the newest additions among the 46 schools in Montgomery County. This count does not include specialized institutions like the St. Bethlehem Early Learning Center and the Burt Innovation Center, which hosts the Austin Peay State University Middle College.

Kirkwood Elementary was built with an expansion already in place. The school is starting the year with around 800 students but has the capacity for a little over 1,000. According to Anthony Johnson, CMCSS spokesman, the district is expected to exceed 40,000 students this year.
