CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Jeff Burkhart has announced he’s running for re-election to the Tennessee House of Representatives in District 75.

Jeffery Darrell Burkhart, 62, is a lifelong resident of Clarksville. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1980 and received an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Volunteer State Community College in 2014. Shortly after he graduated high school, he started working for the Clarksville Gas and Water Department. In 1982, he transferred to the Fire Department and worked his way up through the ranks to the leadership role of assistant fire chief. In 1985, he began his career in the construction industry and has since grown a business developing commercial and residential subdivisions, as well as building commercial and residential properties.

Burkhart was elected to Ward 12 of the Clarksville City Council in 2008 and re-elected again in 2012 and 2016. In 2022, Burkhart was elected to the Tennessee House, District 75. During the past two years there, he has had a hand in passing some of the following legislation:

1. 2024 Modernization Plan – Montgomery County got $807 million for I-24 and other road projects (second most in the state of Tennessee)
2. Montgomery County received funds to open a second driver’s license facility at Exit 11.
3. Death penalty for child rapists (HB 1663).
4. Allowing students to defend themselves on campus (HB 1909).
5. Fighting the opioid crisis (HB 2903).
6. Protected children from gender mutilation (HB 1).
7. $800 million in tax cuts for Tennesseans (HB 323 & HB 1893).
8. Increased Tennessee National Guard at U.S. southern border (HB 2190).
9. Enhanced school safety (HB 322).
10. Ease education transition for military families (HB 1416).
11. Protect teacher’s rights to concealed carry (HB 1202).

Burkhart said his basic belief is that of a fiscal conservative, meaning spending to improve all citizens’ quality of life, not taxing everyone for the benefit of a special few. As a state representative, he said he is dedicated to continuing to make the needs and values of the people of District 75 a priority, which includes continuing to improve infrastructure in all of Montgomery County, which he said is woefully inadequate.

Burkhart is a member of Hilldale Church of Christ. He is engaged to Cindy Greene and has one daughter, Meredith Grace Burkhart.
