FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday on Fort Campbell to celebrate the beginning of an $87.4 million housing development project as the Army follows through on its commitment to significantly improve family housing.

The U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Campbell and Lendlease, the Army’s privatized housing partner, announced the project, which is focused on junior enlisted housing. Construction will involve 144 new three-and- four-bedroom homes, major renovation on 170 homes, and demolition of 250 homes over the next five years.

Maj. Gen. Brian Winski, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, said the new housing would make Fort Campbell, a better place to serve and live.

“This has been a long time coming. We made a promise to our soldiers and families to improve their quality of life on Fort Campbell and we are ready to deliver in a big way,” Fort Campbell Garrison Commander Col. Jeremy Bell said.

Housing areas on Fort Campbell are named in honor of 101st Medal of Honor winners.

The new housing area will be named Erevia Park, after Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Santiago Erevia who served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. In 1969, with his platoon pinned down by heavy enemy fire from four bunkers, Spc. Erevia charged and singlehandedly eliminated the bunkers.
