CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Brock Cobb, the former band director at Rossview High School, according to a release by the Comptroller’s Office.

The Comptroller’s Office began its investigation after school officials reported possibly missing funds. Investigators determined that Cobb stole at least $2,750 that was collected from students and their families as payment for a spring break band trip to New York City in March 2020.

The New York trip had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, Cobb failed to turn over at least $2,750 that he had collected to the school bookkeeper for deposit into the school’s bank account. Cobb allegedly kept the money for his personal benefit and failed to account for all of the money on school collection logs as required.

After the trip was cancelled, several parents contacted the school and Cobb to voice concerns that their refund was less than what they had paid for the trip. After receiving questions from parents, Cobb made payments to the families directly.

Cobb resigned as Rossview’s band director effective June 22, 2020.

In July 2021, the Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Brock Justin Cobb on one count of theft over $2,500.

He was booked into Montgomery County Jail on Friday.

“Tennessee school systems must ensure that teachers who collect money are following the rules,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “These rules include preparing accurate collection records and ensuring money is turned over to the cashier each day for deposit. I’m pleased to see the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is already taking steps to improve in this area.”
