MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A former Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy was one of two officers killed in a weekend shooting that occurred in Honolulu, Hawaii near Diamond Head.

According to Honolulu Police, Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama were responding to reports of a woman being stabbed in Waikiki on Sunday, January 20, when they were shot. Both Enriquez and Kalama were hit above their bullet proof vests and killed.

Officer Enriquez previously served as a jail deputy in Montgomery County (Aug 2007-Jan 2008 and Aug 2009- Mar 2011) before serving seven years with the Honolulu Police Department. Enriquez also served in the United States Airforce. She is survived by her three daughters and her grandson.

A Candlelight Vigil was held in Enriquez’s honor January 21 on Kaimana Beach in Waikiki, organized by friends and family of the fallen officer.

The shooter, who police identified as Jerry Hanel, 69, is currently unaccounted for along with two other individuals. According to a report by NPR, Hanel is suspected of stabbing his landlord before setting a fire that destroyed seven homes, including his own.

Officers are currently searching the rubble for Hanel or any other individuals that may have been caught in the blaze.

“It will likely take days to process the crime scene, including recovery of any remains,” Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard said at a press briefing. “At this time there are three people who are unaccounted for, including the suspect.”

This incident is currently under investigation by the FBI as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
