CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – With the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in Tennessee, and after Gov. Bill Lee’s most recent executive orders, Montgomery County is going back to County Commission meetings that are online-only for the public.

“In accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders No. 16 and 51, regarding limiting gatherings to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, and allowing public meetings to take place by electronic means; Montgomery County Commission meetings scheduled in July and August will be conducted in-person for County Commissioners only,” county spokeswoman Michelle Newell said in a news release.

“The public will not be allowed in the commission chambers. Limiting public access to these meetings is necessary to protect the public health, safety, and welfare in light of COVID-19,” the release said.

The July 13 formal meeting, Aug. 3 informal meeting and Aug. 10 formal meeting will be open to the public only by electronic means and can be viewed on the county YouTube channel during the meeting as well as any time after the meeting.

Members of the public who plan to address the County Commission about zoning cases on Aug. 3 may do so via Webex from the first-floor training room of the County Courthouse, with help from a staff member. Space in the training room will be limited and first-come, first-served.
