CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville police officer was involved in a single vehicle crash while responding to a carjacking call Thursday.
Police said Officer Alan Greenman, 32, crashed in the 2000 block of Robin Dr. around 11:30 p.m. on March 28.
According to police, an unknown caller requested the delivery of a pizza to a Robin Dr. address. When the female driver in her 20s arrived and got out of her 2016 Ford Escape, she was approached by two men, one man from the front and the other from the back.
The man at her back pushed a blunt object to the back of her head and told her not to move. The men took her pizza and then stole her car and headed north toward Green Acres Dr. The woman was unharmed.
Officer Greenman, one of the officers responding to the area, was driving north on Ft Campbell Blvd in a marked patrol car with the emergency lights and siren activated.
While trying to pass a vehicle, the driver started to move into the officer’s lane, causing the officer to take immediate evasive action to avoid a collision.
Officer Greenman left the paved northbound lanes off the right side of the roadway near Ft Campbell Blvd and Tobacco Rd, striking some obstacles before finally coming to rest in the grassy area of 2201 Ft Campbell Blvd.
Officer Greenman was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt where he is in stable condition and being treated for his injuries. He has been with the department for a little more than a year, according to Clarksville police spokesman Jim Knoll.
The carjacked 2016 Ford Escape was found unoccupied a short time later at the apartments at 65 Durrett Dr. Police are following leads in the case.
