Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox has confessed he had to lip sync during the group’s performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards due to vocal problems.

The country music superstars took the stage during Sunday’s show in Las Vegas with their new song “Rewind,” but critics were quick to point out that LeVox was not singing live.

The band tells TMZ.com that LeVox lost his voice last week after performing several shows, but instead of canceling their performance at the ceremony at the last minute, he opted to go ahead with a little help.

The singer and his bandmates confess, “We’ve never done it before, and we’re obviously not very good at it.”

Ironically, the lip syncing came just after ACM Awards co-host Blake Shelton boasted about the show’s live performances, joking, “If you don’t like live music, then you need to go down the block and see Britney Spears.”
